“The menu is just basic down-home food,” Hermann said.
The café is mainly open for breakfast and lunch, but she also offers dinner twice a week with a special, such as meatloaf with squash and homemade mashed potatoes. “Everything is homemade. It’s just the way I would cook for my own kids,” said the mother of three. “It’s just how your grandma used to make it.”
She did make a few changes to the menu, though, including the addition of iced coffee, veggie burgers and gluten-free options. It’s caused some sneers from the locals. “Of course, the farmers are giggling at me over the burgers and the iced coffees and all that, but we do have travelers who eat different.”
