Local brewer Vince Wardell almost didn’t even bring his painstakingly crafted honey beer, he thought it was too experimental and he hadn’t quite perfected it yet, but his wife convinced him that it should be his entry in the competition this year.
Brewed in a farm house just north of Ottawa, his beer went on to win the best in show award and was the talk of the festival among the home brew samplers.
“I’ll have to thank my wife when I get home, this has been my most popular beer to date,” Vince added with a laugh.
Scott Struchen, of Tangled Roots Brewing Company, was blown away by this year’s entries.
“This was the closest contest we’ve had in years. These clubs are brewing beers on par with professional breweries, I’m really impressed with what they brought this year. I think their efforts need to be congratulated,” Struchen said.
