In recent years, Johnson has become increasingly interested in experimenting with mixed media glasswork. Which, according to her, is no easy feat.
"As you could imagine, molten glass really doesn't like interacting with wood. I have to put the glass on there just long enough for it form fit, without completely catching the wood on fire," Johnson said. "I then let the glass cool over night, sand away where it started to burn the wood, then glue the two pieces together."
The results speak for themselves. These unique combinations of crosscut wood or driftwood and beautiful oblong vases make for excellent display pieces.
