This Girls Brew Too beer, Baja 575, was made by Tangled Roots Brewing Company's Marketing Design Assistant Lauren Pfeffer, in memory of her late father, Jim Pfeffer.
Jim, a long-time Starved Rock Country resident, died in March of this year from a rare variant of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), known as Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS).
"He was diagnosed with AML in August of 2018, and later, aHUS syndrome. In the United States, only about 2 in 1 million people are ever diagnosed with it. It falls under the leukemia umbrella, but it's much more unknown. So I'd like to generate more awareness for the different types of blood cancers out there. That was the purpose and inspiration for the beer," said Lauren Pfeffer, in short documentary produced for the beer's release party.
