Once you arrive in front of the restaurant, a large sign in their window directs you to call 815-433-0478, to let the staff know you're ready to receive your order. Within just a few moments, an employee, clad with the appropriate face mask and gloves, brought out my securely packaged food. In short order, I was on my way back home to enjoy this hot and fresh meal.
Let's start with the lunch's centerpiece, The Cheese Shop and Deli's Italian beef. Like so many of their other sandwiches and entrees, this sandwich is a truly enormous portion. At just over seven inches long and four inches wide, this mammoth sandwich is loaded with high quality fresh beef, and is bound to rival some of your favorite spots in Chicago.
It's a juicy, flavorful sandwich, served on a halved hoagie style Italian bun (that may rile some purists, but I assure you it's a delicious foundation for this Italian beef). The bun has been lightly toasted with garlic butter, giving each bite just the right amount of crispness. After that it's layered with a generous amount of provolone cheese, melted beautifully, giving the sandwich just the right amount of bite to hold up against the deliciously seasoned beef.
I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan of Italian beefs, or just looking to try something new off of The Cheese Shop's menu.
