The Boeing B-17G, known as “Yankee Lady”, will be visiting the Illinois Valley Regional Airport this Saturday and Sunday, September 18th and 19th.
One of only ten airworthy B-17s in the world, this remarkable plane is anticipated to arrive about at approximately noon on Saturday. Once it's landed, the plane will be available for self guided tours, photographs and even 30-minute rides for the die-hard aviation historians.
Self-guided tours will be offered for $8 for those age 15 and older, $3 for children ages 6-15 and free for those under 6.
Looking to experience a flight in a B-17? Air adventure rides will be available at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon Sunday. Additional rides will be added based on demand. There will be a max of 8 passengers and ample social distance on each flight.
This rare opportunity for a 30-minute ride in this piece of living history will cost you $475 a ticket. To book a ride in advance, visit www.yankeeairmuseum.org and click “fly with us.”

This Boeing manufactured "flying fortress" joined the U.S. Army Air Force on July 16, 1945, shortly after victory in Europe was declared. The Yankee Lady, like all of the other surviving B-17 Flying Fortresses, never saw a day of combat.
Lucky for us, The Yankee Lady is one of a scant few remaining flightworthy models, and a true sight to behold. Boasting a staggering 104' wingspan, and capable of reaching 287mph, there's a reason why the aviation community loves these relics. If you've missed visiting airshows this year, or just interested in the history of the B-17, this event can't be missed!
